I want to start the tutorials with the basics. It really doesn't get much more basic then showing you how to make your own battle board! This battle board will make about 1,024 hexes, and that is quite a bit! The whole project will only cost you around $25 and you will have enough materials left over for the next tutorial that I am going to walk you through. Anyway, If you want to learn how to make your own battle board then read on faithful terrain maker!

Materials you will need
  • Pink insulation board $10 at Home Depot, this is the pink insulation board that goes under the siding of your house.
  • Brown paint $2 at Walmart. Get the big container of it you will need it.
  • White paint $1 at Walmart. Get the little container of it.
  • White glue/ PVA glue (Elmers glue) $1
  • Flock $10 you need a big bag, or big container of it.
  • Water (Free)
  • Heroscape Tiles (if you don't have these then it is around $40 for the game)

Take your pink board... err wait. Lets not call it pink board. Lets call it salmon board. It just sounds more manly.

Take your salmon board and lay it out on your work surface The sheet should be a 4'x8' section.

Measure and cut the board into two 4'x4' sections. Take one of the sections and put it to the side for next weeks tutorial.

Take the other 4'x4' section and cut it into two 2'x4' sections.

Remove the plastic see through film that is on the salmon board. It is on both sides, you may not see it, but it is there! It should peel off very easy. Then flip the board over and put it together at the center seam and tape it. Make sure you tape it at a seam that you cut so that it matches up perfectly when the two halves are folded together. Put the tape on good and tight so that the pieces line up good. You want them to be together perfectly wen you "hex" the board.

It is important that the seams are tight and you have it straight. You will be removing this tape when we go to flock so don't get to crazy with it.
